When I was there, the students were between 16 and 23 years old and it couldn't be better, such an amazing age, the conversations were so fluid and everyone wanted to talk with me, you can really feel like a rock star, everyone would want to know how is my country and normal life, and take selfies.
I had some troubles when I arrived and they took me to the doctor and helped me. The food is truly sri lankan, rice and spicy curry, if you don't like spicy as me it will be a bit difficult in the beginning but there is always dhaal.
Amma will be a mother for you and assure that you are well. Even if you hate spicy you will miss it, my appetite now asks for spicy food (especially the curry).
Ms Mira stayed a short time with us but She was always hanging out with the students. They love it when you sing for them and spend as much time with them as possible, and sometimes they will invite you to their home which is an experience that volunteers should have!
Good Luck My time here is one I will cherish forever; the students, as the volunteer's main priority, are all so innocent and fun.
All students and staff have such big dreams here so it's an inspiration to be surrounded by such positive energy.
Also, this village is conservative Buddhist so don't forget to bring long but breezy trousers and keep an open mind to the way things are run here. The family who runs the business is extremely friendly and you'll know the true meaning of Sri Lankan hospitality here!In fact, I originally planned to stay here for three weeks but ended up extending my visa to stay an extra three weeks, in which Wasala helped front half of my visa costs.Sorry for taking so long to write a review Wasala, but I only had the chance now. Do not hesitate to host her as she knows how to help in return. We are thankful to workawy for allowing us to have great volunteers Greetings, I have stayed with this project and the community for 2 weeks and kept coming back. Please say hi to everyone for me and a big thank you. Its very true when it comes to words about creating close relationship with place, stuff members and mostly students. If you think you have the passion and the drive to be a part of the team at Sri Lankan, we invite you to explore our world.
