I still have an XP computer on my network, which I fire up occasionally to run DOS programs. I booted it on April 3, and noticed that the last virus and spyware definitions were updated March 27. The text below the green bar says initiating, downloading, installing (or something like that as the bar progresses from left to right). Then I get a 'connection failed' message which says it did not update because of an internet or network connectivity problem. Other programs on the XP access the internet just fine.Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet and try again” error.
Just now (on the 10th), I got a note that I had 6 Office updates, that had been installed on my Windows computer on March 29. Is there a coincidence with the forum's perceptions and what options might be the solution.
If you have already installed Microsoft Security Essentials final on one of your Windows machines that has no internet connection and looking for a way to update the virus definition updates, here is a quick and easy solution.
Step 3: If you are on Windows 7/Vista, right-click on the downloaded file and select Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or click Continue.
Once you install MSE on a machine, it will try to update the virus and spyware definition.
If the machine is not connected to the Internet, it will display “Microsoft Security Essentials wasn’t able to complete the virus and spyware definition updates. You can find it easily by opening system properties (use Windows Pause/Break key to open system properties).Step 2: Next, download the offline definition updates for MSE from Microsoft: Download for 32-bit Download for 64-bit Just save the file on a USB stick so that you can connect the USB stick to the offline machine and then update MSE.As for you, I had no new definition file after March 27 as far as yesterday. I am not good enough to guess more from the screenshots you sent. Regards, Jean-Yves Jean-Yves: This is really strange. After I got your April 8 post, I booted my XP and tried again. I tried several times on the 8th, with the same result. I checked a few hours later and the the definition file was uploaded.
